IN CONVERSATION WITH MARIA PALM
Maria Palm has been a dear friend of Trine since the beginning. In this conversation, she shares her thoughts and experiences on the space between movement and stillness. Rooted in ritual, presence, and the ongoing practice of listening inward, Maria shares how her daily rituals shape both her inner realm and the life she inhabits. From sacred mornings and grounding rituals to the alignment between uncertainty and trust, this is a conversation about discovering a sense of home within - and allowing that connection to guide both practice and profession.
Do you have a morning ritual you always return to?
Yes! A few – mornings are sacred to me, and I always prioritize having time in the morning. I put on calm meditation music, wash my face with ice-cold water, and apply oil, then I do gua sha. I make a hot beverage - it can be matcha, coffee, or whatever I’m in the mood for. I light some candles and burn Palo Santo. I draw circles around myself to cleanse the energy of the night and start fresh. Then I do some morning stretches and movements, ending with a short meditation. Ready to face the world feeling centered, calm, and balanced.
What led you to turn inward? What inspired the practice you have today?
I started practicing yoga at quite a young age, around 14. Shortly after that, I began modeling, and with that came a lot of traveling. I found the fashion industry to be quite fast-paced and shallow - very focused on the exterior, and less on the interior. To keep myself grounded and connected, I continued practicing yoga. The beautiful thing is that yoga is an international language - you can find it wherever you go. I quickly realized how important it felt to maintain that inner connection when constantly on the move. Since then, it has been a constant journey - an ever-developing one. Diving deeper and deeper, I’ve landed in a place where I can combine both worlds, creating an inner and outer universe that feels true to me. To me, the greatest gift in life is learning and passing that knowledge on for someone else to receive and expand.
How do you balance your two careers? Are there insights from one that inform the other?
My practice and my work have taught me a lot about patience, control (or the lack of it), and acceptance. We never know what the future holds, we cannot control every situation, and we must accept the present for what it is. Modeling is unpredictable - in every way. Through my practice, I’ve learned to accept that and to be at peace with it. Knowing that whatever may happen is meant for me, I lean into the universe with trust. (It takes daily practice…)
When do you feel most in touch with yourself?
When I allow myself to be present. This, too, is a constant practice. It starts with observing. Whenever I feel out of touch, I go for a walk - being in nature is a safe way back home for me.
What does self-nurture mean to you?
It means allowance. Allowing myself to be, to feel, to say yes, to say no, to listen to my gut and my intuition - without apologizing for existing. It means taking care of my mind, my body, and my spirit.
Do you have a way of preparing yourself for the darker months?
I love all the seasonal changes, and I think every season brings something special. During the darker season with shorter days, I allow myself to go home early, make fewer plans, curl up on the couch with fuzzy socks, eat hot home-cooked meals, and nest. However, I make sure to take my vitamins, stay active, get plenty of fresh air, and I have a lovely red light mask that I wear for 10 minutes every morning. Whenever possible, I try to plan a trip somewhere warm during the wintertime - to feel the warmth on my skin, get some vitamin D, and find inspiration.
Is the turn of the year connected to something special for you?
To me, it truly feels like a clean slate. I’m a Virgo moon, and I like my inner world to be in order. I enjoy clearing out to make space for the new. It’s a time to release what no longer serves me, creating more clarity moving forward.
You’ve known Trine for many years and followed the brand since the beginning - is there a particular Trine Tuxen piece you feel especially connected to?
I’ve always loved how Trine is able to incorporate astrology, gemstones, and organic shapes into her pieces. There have been many beautiful designs throughout the years, but my favorites - which I wear every day - are the Flare and Balance rings. The Carnelian and Onyx stones make me feel very held and protected, and the design feels perfect to me, simple and powerful
Is there one of the new Trine Tuxen objects you imagine using both personally and in your practice?
The incense holder is already a part of my daily practice. It works perfectly as a small altar for incense sticks, Palo Santo, and a candle. Paired with my Endless lighter case, it looks beautiful anywhere.
