The story behind Elmegade 5

BY TRINE TUXEN

I’ve lived on Elmegade for 21 years - it’s more than just a street to me, it’s home. Over the years, I’ve watched the neighborhood grow and shift, but it’s always kept its warmth and creative pulse. Opening my own second store here felt completely natural - almost inevitable. It’s where I live, and where I’ve built my life.

When the old candy store Palmen became available, I immediately saw its potential. Together with Nikolaj L. Mentze, Studio 0405, who also designed my flagship store, we began reimagining what the space could be. Nikolaj took inspiration from the Flagship Store at Gammel Kongevej 82, bringing with him some of the design language and sensibility that defines our brand. You’ll find subtle references and familiar elements - the warmth of natural materials, the tactile surfaces, the sense of calm - yet the space on Elmegade has its own distinct personality.

At the heart of the store stands an oversized spinning shelf, a sculptural centerpiece that brings movement and curiosity into the space. It’s both playful and grounding - a way to experience the pieces from every angle, to explore and rediscover.

Our store at Elmegade 5, which opened in December 2022, is filled with everything I’m passionate about - a carefully curated mix of jewelry, ceramics, glassware, fragrances, and aromas. It also showcases my own ceramic work, a new chapter in my artistic expression that has become deeply personal to me.

The interior is designed around tactility and natural materials - wood, chalk, and stone - to create a sense of organic warmth and calm. Every detail is meant to feel alive and authentic, like the neighborhood itself.

It’s a space that brings together the people and brands I admire, both local and international - a meeting point for craftsmanship, creativity, and community. More than a store, it’s a reflection of everything I love about this street - and about creating something with both hands and heart.
